In Paper Pirates, the Cabin Boy is the second lowest possible rank. They will always be present in games, the rank above the Stowaway. They have a vote power of 2, and are able to take place in commands - the orders available for them to complete will always be random.

- As the rank above the Stowaway, a role which is almost guaranteed to be a human, the previous Stowaway will most likely end up becoming the Cabin Boy. They can usually be trusted, but not always. If a crew member has been thrown overboard, keep it in mind if they voted the player who was thrown. If they did, and the player was human, then there is a chance that the Stowaway - now a Cabin Boy - could have been haunted - but this, of course, is not guaranteed.
- As a ghost, you can afford to be more reckless as a Cabin Boy, compared to being a higher rank. This is because if you are suspected to be a ghost, people will be less likely to throw you, as they are more concerned about those higher up in the ranks. And, if you are thrown, it will not change much, as you will most likely be promoted again and get back to Cabin Boy.
- Due to not having much vote power, you can be a bit more lenient with who you vote for. Especially in games with more players, you will need multiple people to also vote for the person you have.
